The valley is where Phantom Blade Zero stops teaching and starts testing. You arrive with nothing, chasing a rumour down a waterfall, and leave with a Dread Axe, a dead betrothed, and the first of five Long Pillars burning in your blood. Everything below follows the played route: Peng Meng before the outpost, Hua before the waterfall, and the valley’s one true point of no return flagged before you cross it.
Story context: what the valley is for
Soul falls into Weeping Creek Valley after the prologue ambush, following the creek toward a Mandate outpost. The valley is not a tutorial any more — it is the first place the game asks you to choose between the main road and the things bleeding just off it. Yu’Er is here, the Transcension experiments are here, and the Forge and Peddler both unlock here, which means the valley is also where your build actually begins.
Two chapter entries cover this region: Against the Flow and Steel and Steam. The Hunt is the chapter boss for the second entry, and the same beast you fought on the cart in the prologue returns with a Sixfold Scythe.
Step-by-step route through Weeping Creek Valley
Follow these in order. Steps 1–3 are the critical path; steps 4–7 are where the region’s optional content lives.
- Accept “Whence the Weeping.” Ring The Beginning bell, then meet Yu’Er. This leads you into the Flesh Lily thread.
- Ring the valley bells as you descend. Fight Jagged Steel on the riverbed — sidestep the leap, guard the spin, and cleanse bleed afterwards.
- Enter the Mandate outpost. Meet Forge (upgrades) and the Peddler (store). Pick up the Cell Key.
- Defeat Peng Meng at the Axemaster’s Fall. He drops the Dread Axe, which breaks chains. Use it to cross the destroyed village, then ring The Axemaster’s Holding Cell.
- Cross the stone bridge and ring Creek Valley Plains Entrance. Accept Deep in the Valley, clear the archer camp, climb Sha-Chi Tower, and complete A Severed Mindseal.
- Defeat Hua in the Flesh Lily Fields for the Flesh Lily, then give it to Yu’Er.
- Defeat The Hunt at the Great Waterfall to close the region.
Mandatory bosses
Three fights gate your exit from the valley. None of them are skippable, and all three sit on the main route rather than behind a detour.
| Boss | Location | Reward | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jagged Steel | Riverbed | Jagged Steel | Sidestep the leap, guard the spin, cleanse bleed |
| Peng Meng | Axemaster’s Fall | Dread Axe | Parry blue; dodge the grab late |
| The Hunt (Sixfold Scythe) | Great Waterfall | Hunter’s Chain Sickle | Four sickles; sidestep rather than backpedal |
The Hunt is the chapter boss for Steel and Steam. If you fought it on the cart in the prologue, the moveset is familiar but the scythe count is not — treat it as a fresh fight.
Optional bosses and the first Long Pillar
Two optional encounters matter here, and one of them is a True Ending requirement.
- Hua, the Deadly Betrothed — Flesh Lily Fields. Drops the Scarlet Wraithblade and the Flesh Lily. Parry her strings and stay off the lily patches; she does not inflict Bleed. This fight is optional but the Flesh Lily is not missable content you want to skip.
- Aberrant Three-Faced Puppet — Challenge Rift. Drops the Three-Headed Doll. Come back once you have levelled; burst one mask at a time rather than spreading damage.
- Gold-Masked One (1/5) — Long Pillar Overlook. Drops the Counterstrike Bracers. This is the first of the five Long Pillars that make up Bloodline Awakening, and the pillar chain is required for the True Ending.
The Gold-Masked One fights the same way at every pillar: bait counters, parry, punish the guard break. If you can beat the first, you can beat the rest.
Tales and collectibles in the valley
The valley’s Tales are thin compared to Crimson Forest, but the ones present are easy to walk past.
- Whence the Weeping — accepted at the start, from Yu’Er’s thread. This is a purple-icon quest and counts toward the True Ending checklist.
- Deep in the Valley — accepted after ringing Creek Valley Plains Entrance. Also purple-icon.
- A Severed Mindseal — completed at Sha-Chi Tower. This one gates a later encounter: the Spectral Blade at Mount Soulrend only appears if A Severed Mindseal is done.
- Apprentice Healer — must be finished before Jing Ye in Crimson Forest.
Keys and items to pick up before you leave: Dread Axe, Chain Sickle, Flesh Lily, and Primal Stone. NPCs in the region are Yu’Er, Forge, and the Peddler — the last two are your upgrade and shop access for the rest of the run, so do not rush past them.
What is missable before leaving the valley
This is the checklist that matters. The valley itself has no hard cutoff, but three of its threads expire later, and one of them expires in the very next region.
- A Severed Mindseal completed at Sha-Chi Tower
- Apprentice Healer finished (expires before Jing Ye, Crimson Forest)
- Flesh Lily handed to Yu’Er (expires before Bai Chilian, Crimson Forest)
- Whence the Weeping accepted and progressed
- Deep in the Valley accepted and progressed
- Long Pillar 1 — Gold-Masked One defeated at Long Pillar Overlook
- Hua defeated for the Scarlet Wraithblade and Flesh Lily
- Aberrant Three-Faced Puppet defeated, if you are levelled for it
- Forge and Peddler visited at the outpost
If you are chasing the platinum, the valley contributes to several of the game’s seven missable trophies indirectly — the Long Pillar chain and the purple-icon Tales both feed the True Ending checklist. See the missables checklist for the full cross-region list, and the Long Pillars guide for the remaining four locations.
Region level and pacing
Enemy levels here run 1–4, and the region takes roughly 4–5 hours if you do the optional content. Weapon upgrade targets for this stretch are a heuristic rather than a documented figure — treat them as a rough guide, not a rule.
The practical pacing note: Peng Meng is the difficulty spike. If you are struggling, the Dread Axe is not the reward for beating him, it is the tool you need afterwards, so there is no way to sequence around him. Level up on the archer camp and the riverbed enemies first.
Next region: Crimson Forest
Leaving the valley drops you into Crimson Forest and the Snake’s Reflection chapter, where Lady Inanis begins Illusion of Inanis and the region’s six Memory Flowers come into play. Two valley threads expire there — Apprentice Healer before Jing Ye, and the Flesh Lily hand-in before Bai Chilian — so finish both before you commit to the forest’s boss order. The boss order guide covers what waits at the Threadbound Great Tree.
Sources & confidence
Route, boss order, and rewards are drawn from the Fextralife Game Progress Route, PowerPyx’s walkthrough, and kungfupunk’s walkthrough, cross-checked against the pbz.gg boss database. The biggest uncertainty is the region’s weapon-level target, which no source documents officially — the 4–5 hour estimate and upgrade heuristics are derived rather than confirmed. Chapter numbering for Weeping Creek Valley is consistent across sources; the Mountain/Meigu ordering conflict elsewhere in the game does not affect this region.
