Phantom Blade Zero hands you a 66-day death sentence and a conspiracy that runs from a rain-soaked dojo to a frozen summit, and it never pauses to explain which detour you just locked yourself out of. This walkthrough follows the played region order — Prologue through Mount Soulrend — and flags every mandatory boss, optional layer, Tale, and point of no return in sequence. Follow it top to bottom for a clean 100% run, or jump to the region you’re stuck in.

Region Order at a Glance

The game is semi-open and hub-and-spoke: nine regions, twelve chapter entries including the prologue. The practical route is Prologue → Weeping Creek Valley → Crimson Forest → Village of Lu → Pangzhen (part one) → Mandate Encampment detour → Pangzhen (part two) → Meigu Lake → Mountain of Imprisonment → Mirage Estate → Mount Soulrend.

Order Region Mandatory Bosses Level Est. Time

3 Crimson Forest Hua Qianxiao, Jing Ye, Iron Fever, Bai Chilian 5–6 4–5 h
4 Village of Lu Zhuo Bi, Bi Yuan, Bi Hai, Yuzan, Mu Xiaokui 8–9 3–4 h
5 Pangzhen Blaze, Cavalrybane, Wu Xuan, Gu Wanyue, Xie Qiudong, Chang Hong, Flame, Soulclaimer 10–18 6–8 h
6 Mandate Encampment None strictly mandatory 19–20 2–3 h
7 Meigu Lake Grief-Stricken Jin, Heartpiercer 19–23 4–5 h
8 Mountain of Imprisonment None mandatory; Huangxing for True Ending 22 2–3 h

11–12 Mount Soulrend Saw and Crusher, Leng Tu, Meng Hua; Zuo Shang (True) 25 2–3 h

Order caveat. Chapter numbering is inconsistent across the in-game table and guide sources. This guide follows Meigu → Mountain, matching PowerPyx’s played route and the geography (Mountain sits north of Meigu Lake). Treat the exact chapter numbers as uncertain.

Prologue & Weeping Creek Valley

  1. Complete the dojo duel and combat tutorial against Zuo Shang.
  2. Finish the past-traversal tutorial, then defeat Zuo Shang again in the present.
  3. Ride with Old Man Gen; clear two road enemies, then defeat The Hunt and fall into the valley.
  4. Accept Whence the Weeping; ring The Beginning; meet Yu’Er to start Flesh Lily.
  5. Ring the valley bells; defeat Jagged Steel; enter the outpost for the Forge, Peddler, and Cell Key.
  6. Defeat Peng Meng for the Dread Axe; break the chains; ring The Axemaster’s Holding Cell.
  7. Cross the stone bridge; ring Creek Valley Plains Entrance; accept Deep in the Valley; clear the archer camp; climb Sha-Chi Tower; do A Severed Mindseal.
  8. Defeat Hua (optional) for the Flesh Lily; give it to Yu’Er; defeat The Hunt at the Great Waterfall.

Crimson Forest & Village of Lu

Crimson Forest opens with Lady Inanis and her Illusion of Inanis quest, built around six Memory Flowers and the Chord.

  1. Speak to Inanis; ring the Crane Bell; defeat Hua Qianxiao at Pangzhen Bridge Overlook.
  2. Cross with the Sickle; free Quick Hand Zhang; defeat Jing Ye at Outlaw Trap.
  3. At Thieves’ Camp, take the four tales; use the Cliffside Lodge cranks; defeat Iron Fever.
  4. Complete Lóng Pillar 2; meet Inanis at Burial Grounds; solve the portals; defeat Bai Chilian.
  5. Backtrack for the Red Serpent Tongue and all six Memory Flowers.

Before Bai Chilian, close out A Healer’s Mercy, Secrets of the Baishan Sect, Purge the Sect, Festering Secret, Honor Among Thieves, the Boulderguard, and every Memory Flower.

Village of Lu is a puppet testing ground where Mu Xiaokui believes Soul killed her father.

  1. Meet Jewel; take Jewel’s Knot; ring Mandate Encampment Outer Gate; meet Old Man Gen.
  2. Defeat Zhuo Bi for Bastion; meet Young Master Lan; follow the five red ribbons.
  3. Do Temple of the Blue Fireflies; meet the Flower Masked Weaver; ring Covered Bridge and Zhang’s Hideout.
  4. Defeat Bi Yuan and Bi Hai; meet the Wounded Thief.
  5. Defeat Dusk (optional) and Yuzan; defeat Mu Xiaokui; take the Wild Oriole Sword on the dock before entering Pangzhen.

Accept The Journey Home and Young Master Lan before you leave — both are missable.

Pangzhen, Mandate Encampment & the True Ending Cutoff

Pangzhen is the Order’s shadow capital and the game’s longest region. The Four Serpent Houses quest sends you to the Red, Black, and White Houses for the Tongue, Fang, and Eye, then back to the Green Serpent House.

  1. Find the backstreet; enter the Order’s underground tavern; reach central Pangzhen.
  2. Defeat Blaze, Cavalrybane, Wu Xuan, and Gu Wanyue.
  3. Visit Yu’Er’s house; resolve Flesh Lily; visit Lei Dang at Jingyang Hall; open the Lion Dance Hall; defeat Flame for the Dormant Flaming Mane; return to Lei Dang for the Flaming Mane.
  4. Continue Pangzhen’s optional layer: defeat Xie Qiudong, Chang Hong, and Soulclaimer; optionally Zhu Yuan.
  5. Green Serpent House: collect the Serpent keys; activate the mechanism to open the passage to Mirage Estate.

The Mandate Encampment chapter has no strictly mandatory boss, but it carries the Pillars of Kunlun, Secrets of the Baishan Sect, and Daughter of the Dark Sect threads. Optional bosses here include Xue, Wan Jun, Red, Chief Disciple, Wu Lengshuang, and Yubi.

Meigu Lake & Mountain of Imprisonment

Meigu is the drowned hub of docks, islands, and the frozen Four Guardians’ Mirror.

  1. Reach Meigu by Sha-Chi Powered Boat; ring the three docks and the Lóng Pillar.
  2. At Village of Lu Shallows Dock, defeat Grief-Stricken Jin; optionally the One-Eyed Archer and You Loong.
  3. At the Songhouse, collect six Yan’er Memory Flowers; optionally defeat Yan Qiansui.
  4. At White Serpent House, defeat Heartpiercer; optionally Acolyte Guhe at the east dock.
  5. With four masks, enter the Phantom Illusionist Ruins; do Lóng Pillar 4; optionally the Blizzard Blademaster.
  6. At Midlake Lóng Pillar Dock, do Lóng Pillar 3; then finish the Heart of the Lake ritual, repair the Pipa, and play it at the Spectral Gate.

Mountain of Imprisonment is a frozen pilgrimage to the Lady of the Veil’s shrine. It is optional for the Normal ending but required for True: Huangxing drops the Flying Guillotine, which yields the Yin Crystal Eye.

  1. Ring The Lady’s Path; traverse the camps and caverns; optionally defeat the Iron Butcher.
  2. At Commander’s Platform, optionally defeat Bi Feng.
  3. At Shrine Outer Gate, optionally defeat Kui Yanyan; activate the lift; optionally Jade-Face at the shrine.
  4. Confront Huangxing; take the Flying Guillotine; use it at the Lady’s statue; complete Pillars of Kunlun and Whence the Weeping; take the Yin Crystal Eye.

Mirage Estate & Mount Soulrend

Mirage Estate is a dream-play inside Pangzhen, entered through the Green Serpent House. Leng Tu has built a “Perfect Vessel” scheme around Yu’Er and the Radiant Heart.

  1. Enter via Green Serpent House; follow Estate Rear Gate → Nuo Mask Altar → Back Hill → Shaded Bamboo Path.
  2. At the Opera House, use the Opera Ticket; defeat Qiu Feng at Mourning Hall.
  3. At Training Grounds, defeat Yuding; in the Mirage Estate Lóng Pillar, defeat Mó Yuan for the fifth trial.
  4. Follow Covered Corridor → Willow Pavilion → Leng Tu’s Study → Perfect Vessel Estate.
  5. At Perfect Vessel Pond, defeat Lei Dang; continue to Mount Soulrend.

Mount Soulrend is the finale. The Saw and the Crusher block the Giant’s Lair; Leng Tu waits above; Meng Hua is the Normal ending’s final boss.

  1. Ring Mountain God Temple; climb.
  2. Ring The Last Mandate Encampment; meet Spectral Blade if A Severed Mindseal is done; finish Cui.
  3. Ring The Giant’s Lair; defeat Saw and Crusher.
  4. Ring The Last Chance — the final point of no return.
  5. Defeat Leng Tu, then Meng Hua for the Normal ending.
  6. If flagged: take the gold portal to The Fallen Dream and defeat Zuo Shang for the True ending.

Sources & confidence

Compiled from PowerPyx’s trophy roadmap and region guide, Fextralife’s Game Progress Route and New Game Plus pages, KeenGamer’s boss list, kungfupunk’s walkthrough, and pbz.gg boss entries, all accessed 4 Nov 2026. The biggest uncertainty is the Meigu Lake vs. Mountain of Imprisonment order: data-mined tables and PowerPyx disagree, and this guide follows PowerPyx’s played order. True Ending flag logic is guide-derived rather than datamined, so treat the exact quest set as provisional.
